At Dominion Trail our goal is to model for our students appropriate uses of technology to complete tasks across the curriculum in language arts, math, science, social studies and other disciplines. Throughout the school year, students will engage in a variety of technology-rich learning activities. While our society is daily increasing its dependency on technology, we at Dominion Trail are continuing to do our part. School newsletters including those from your child’s teachers and principal are posted on the DOM website.

Dominion Trail Elementary has Dell computers for the entire school. Grades K-3 each have four desktop computers in their classrooms and grades 4-5 have two desktops and two laptops for each of their classrooms. All grade levels have a deskjet printer as well in each classroom. We are very fortunate to have a computer lab that has 31 desktop computers, 1 color ink laser printer, and 1 black ink laser printer. Every classroom now has a Promethean board. We are also very lucky to have 1 1/2 sets of Activotes. Grades 3 – 5 come to the lab once a week for 60 minutes, 1st and 2nd come to the lab once a week for 45 minutes and Kindergarten comes to the lab once a week for 30 minutes. Our school houses two carts of 11 laptops that can be used as another resource for any grade level K-5. We also have wireless connectivity with our laptops. We have 3 carts of Alpha Smarts that can be used for word processing.

We strive to integrate technology into student’s weekly lessons that align with Virginia Standards of Learning. Computer lab is not like art, music, and physical education in that it is not intended to be a stand-alone discipline. Teachers are responsible for content integration, but are encouraged to use the Technology Resource Teacher as another resource. The Technology Resource Teacher is always available and willing to help teachers with planning lessons and with delivering those lessons.
