Virginia Tech’s School of Education has named Sully Elementary as a winner of its 2010 Excellence in Education Award.
These awards recognize innovation in education during the 2009-2010 school year. Sully was named one of nine award winners from 40 proposals sent in by public schools and community colleges throughout Virginia.
Sully was recognized for developing a strong home/school connection through its kindergarten readiness program. This program invites future kindergarten students and their parents to school for four orientation sessions before the school year begins. Educational materials are given to the future students and parents are taught how to work with these materials.
The Virginia Tech awards ceremony was held on Wednesday, May 5th, in Owens Dining Hall on Tech’s Blacksburg campus.
