Welcome Back from the PTA!
On behalf of our Parent Teacher Association (PTA), I extend a warm welcome "Back to School" to all of our new and returning families at Mountain View Elementary – Proud Home of the Moose! Nationally and locally, the PTA has long stood as a leader and advocate for our children’s academic success. At Mountain View, we provide supplementary funds, programs, resources and family experiences to help make every child’s potential a reality. To succeed, we need you!
Now is the time to join the PTA or to renew your PTA membership and help make this year a successful and memorable one for every child.
To become a member, simple click on the tab to the left, labeled "Membership Information" or request a membership envelope from the school office. Please note that parents, grandparents, faculty and friends (over 18 years of age) can all become members for only $10 per school year or $15 per couple. Of your dues, three dollars and fifty cents goes to the National PTA, while the balance stays here at Mountain View to directly benefit our students.
Our first PTA meeting will be Thursday, September 18 at 7:00 PM in the school’s library. We’ll discuss the exciting programs and events planned for the 2014-15 school year. All members will have an opportunity to review and approve our goals and our budget. We hope you’ll come and share your ideas and suggestions.
This year is off to a great start as Mountain View Elementary has recently been recognized as a "National PTA School of Excellence" for the 2014 - 2016 school years. National PTA's School of Excellence is a national program that supports and celebrates partnerships between PTAs and schools to improve the educational experience and school environment for every child. This past year Mountain View Elementary and our PTA worked and made progress on increasing involvement from Dads and other male role models as well as offering opportunities to engage all family members. Mountain View is the only school in Loudoun County to receive this distinction and one of only twenty three schools and PTAs awarded this honor in Virginia.
In addition to being designated with the School of Excellence award, Mountain View Elementary is the only school nationwide to receive the prestigious 2014 Phoebe Apperson Hearst Merit Award for Innovation in Family Engagement. Named after National PTA co-founder Phoebe Apperson Hearst, this award is the highest honor presented to a local association in recognition that they have effectively implemented the National Standards for Family-School partnerships. In acknowledgement of these two national awards, a special ceremony will take place on September 11th at 2:45 pm in the school library. All parents and staff are encouraged and welcome to attend!
On behalf of the Mountain View PTA, thank you for all you do as a parent and a partner in your child’s education. Your involvement truly makes a difference, not only for your own family but for each and every child at Mountain View Elementary. We look forward to working with you and wish you the very best this year!
