Bingo & Basket Night! On February 27, 2015, the PTA will host the ever popular annual Bingo & Basket Night! Plan to bring your family out for this exciting evening of pizza, concessions by our 5th Grade, bingo games, prizes and a nail biting classroom basket raffle!! For those of you who are new to our school, each classroom assembles a wonderful themed "Gift Basket" soon to be on display. The PTA will sell Raffle Tickets before school during the week leading up to Bingo Night as well as the night of the event. Then, on February 27th, in between our seven bingo games, the winners of each gift basket will be announced. Of course we will also have prizes for the winners of our bingo games as well! This year's bingo proceeds will go towards new assemblies, new academic challenges, author visits, field trips, the educational grant program and fun family events like a new Spring Carnival! The PTA heartily thanks all of our Room Parents, families, staff, Veronica King (PTA Vice President, Fundraising) and Kathleen Callihan (PTA Raffle Basket Coordinator) for their time, hard work and donations in creating AMAZING classroom raffle baskets! This will be a night you won't want to miss! 2015 Bingo Basket Descriptions
Advocating for our children: Many people are surprised to learn that the National PTA is our nation’s oldest and largest child advocacy group. The overall purpose of the PTA is to make every child’s potential a reality by engaging and empowering families and communities to advocate for all children. What does this mean for Mountain View? As PTA members, it is our duty to support and speak on behalf of children and youth in our schools, the community and before governmental bodies that make decisions affecting all children. Between now and late March, the Loudoun County School Board and Loudoun County Board of Supervisors will be making decisions on the 2015-16 school budget that will impact Mountain View’s staff and children. If funding for full day kindergarten, reduced class sizes, competitive staff compensation, reinstatement of summer school and technology advancements are important to you, I hope you will join me in contacting the School Board and the Board of Supervisors in support of a FY16 tax rate that provides for an excellent public education, rather than setting an equalized tax rate which will result in insufficient funding for Loudoun County Public Schools. Parents and staff can also attend the Board of Supervisors budget public hearing on February 25th at 6 pm to share their thoughts in person. The proposed budget schedule is available at www.loudoun.gov. While many of us would prefer no increase in our property taxes, the bottom line is that lower taxes equal lower school services for our children and staff. Even though your time may be limited, we need your involvement to make a difference ~ please take a minute to write a letter, send an email or make a phone call. Contact information for our School Board is available at www.loudoun.k12.va.us/Page/1629 and for the Board of Supervisors at www.loudoun.gov.
PTA Nominating Committee: It is time to start thinking about the election of next year's PTA Board. The PTA Nominating Committee is a special committee responsible for establishing a slate of candidates for the 2015-16 school year. Positions include: President, Vice President- Family Engagement, Vice President- Fundraising, Treasurer and Secretary. The PTA is requesting volunteers to participate on this committee in March and April. Our bylaws require that interested individuals be members of our Parent Teacher Association. If you are willing to serve our organization in this way, please contact me directly at email@example.com. Formal PTA elections will take place at the May 20th General PTA Meeting and additional nominations will also be taken from the floor. The future of our PTA will be determined by the leadership qualities and people skills of the candidates selected by the Nominating Committee so we hope you will get involved in this important effort! We thank you, in advance, for your willingness to serve our PTA.
