School Counselor / Welcome

Hello, my name is Liz Torres. I was born and raised in Alexandria, Virginia, and I’m currently a resident of Loudoun County. I have been a certified teacher for 16 years and it continues to be a joy to work with children of all ages. My undergraduate degree in Early Childhood Education from Mary Washington College was a gateway to work with many challenging schools. I taught Kindergarten for 3 years in Fairfax County Public Schools as well as working during college summer breaks to teach photography to 8-10 year olds at Burgundy Farm Country Day school in Alexandria. I taught for 11 years a combined Fourth and Fifth grade class at Burgundy Farm Country Day School. A couple memorable school curriculum subjects included studies of Colonial and Medieval ages. I taught and participated in Colonial encampments in which I dressed like a colonist along with my students for three days and two nights. We slept under the stars and used only home grown foods which we cooked over and open fire. In the Medieval unit we learned about knights, kings, queens and chivalry and dressed as notable figures such as Joan of Arc. For a family life unit I was able to acquire anoles (from the lizard family). Each student had an anole to raise but they always seemed to escape!

In 2004 I became a guidance counselor after graduating with a Masters in School Counseling from Marymount University and certified to work in elementary, middle and high school. In the same year I began working at Sully Elementary in Sterling before coming to Hillsboro. I am an active member of the Virginia School Counselor Association and American School Counseling Association.

I will be at the school on Monday’s and Wednesday’s and for the other days of the week I will be spending time with my son, husband and our cats, Zorro, Sparkle, Skippy and Peter Pan! Please feel free to contact me at (540) 751-2562 or email elisabeth.torres@lcps.org.
