Welcome to December!
(Updated: Thursday, December 5th, 2013)
Hello All My Amazingly Awesome Parents! Attention: Please make sure that you're checking your child's Daily (TOWF) Folder everyday! Thanks so much!
OK, so WOW! Thanksgiving break flew by so fast. How about for all of you? It was so great spending time with friends and especially family. Lots of good food to eat.
We have a class motto, please ask your child what it is and what it means. We also came up with our class "mantra," so please ask your child about this as well. Also, this amazing group of phenominal students created their own class rules, have them share those with you. They totally ROCK!
In Math we are now fully functioning in four math groups. Now that Clarity is open for the parents, please note that especially in Math, if your child has an "x" in an assignment, then never fear, it's an assignment that they're exempt from. You will also see in Math assignments listed by group letter. Your child can tell you which math group they're in.
In Language Arts we're continuing to work on our basic writing structures, etc. In Reading we are actually reading 3 or4 different books at the moment depending on what reading group they're participating in twice a week on Monday's and Wednesday's. We're still working on two other books together. One on Thursday's only, and the other one we're deciding whether we're going to finish it as a class or not.
In Social Studies we're off and running in the Northeast region. We've split up into two groups as our fourth graders need to focus on Virginia History and our fifth graders focus on the regions of the United States.
In Science we finished reviewing the Scientific Method as a whole group. We will be doing some cool experiments throughout the year to help reinforce the scientific process. In groups they're working on creating and designing experiments for their classmates to do throughout the year utlilizing all the elements of the scientific method. In Fourth grade, they're working with Mrs. H. on Virginia's Natural Resources. In Fifth grade, we're finishing up our presentations on Rocks, Minerals, and the Rock Cycle.
Keep your eyes peeled for Wednesday Folders and information about upcoming field trips. Please also keep your eyes open for the Reference page tab as that's where we place all kinds of documents that you or your child may need, including spelling lists. Speaking of Spelling lists, I've also loaded them into Spelling City. Your child knows how to access this website from home. They don't need a log in or password.
Continue to encourage your child to read every night for at least 20 minutes. We've challenged our kiddos to read 40 books this year of all different types of genres.
Please note: Jogging Club is continuing for a little while longer, at least until the weather is too cold for them to be outside running. It runs from 7:40-7:50 A.M. Thanks to Mrs. Robic for organizing and running this great program. What a wonderful way to start our day.
We are also now having Chorus. We've changed our daily schedule for hopefully, the last time. Wishful thinking! Please make sure that you and your child fill out the Chorus permission slip that was sent home again in Wednesday folders.
