School History

The first Hamilton School was built in 1922 with four classrooms.  Two of the classrooms were joined with folding doors that were opened to provide auditorium space.  In 1943 the school basement was converted to a cafeteria and parents brought in soup and other hot items to supplement packed lunches.  The 1922 building was renovated and added on to in 1951.  Additional land was purchased in 1963 and the original 1922 structure was razed and the 1951 addition was renovated and enlarged to become the “new” Hamilton Elementary School.  In 1975 additional classrooms were added to Hamilton.

During the 2002-2003 school years Phase I of a major renovation and expansion was begun.  The HVAC, electrical , and lighting systems were replaced along with windows, doors and moveable walls.  Phase 2 was completed in 2004 with the renovation of the cafeteria, kitchen, and computer lab and the addition of resource rooms and a gymnasium.

School Mission

The mission of Hamilton Elementary School is to offer a comprehensive instructional program comprised of core curricula and activities that enhance learning. In designing such a program, we recognize the diversity of our individual student needs and we seek to utilize teaching  strategies that will enable each child to succeed.

The faculty and staff also recognize the importance of collegial relationships and professional growth opportunities. Through these efforts, and in collaboration with parents and the community, our ultimate goal is to enable each child to reach his or her own potential while becoming an independent thinker and problem solver.
