Organized by Fairfax County Department of Family Services, the NOVA CASH Coalition is dedicated to helping local families avoid the costly service most organizations charge to prepare and file taxes. With the help of dedicated IRS certified volunteers, low-income families throughout Northern Virginia received over $7 million in federal refunds last tax season.  The deadline for filing your federal taxes this year is Monday,  April 15, 2013.

TO RECEIVE FREE TAX PREPARATION SERVICES PLEASE BRING THE FOLLOWING ITEMS (to file taxes electronically on a married-filing-joint tax return, both spouses must be present to sign the required forms):

1. Proof of identification – Picture ID.
2. Social Security cards for you, your spouse and dependents or a Social Security number verification letter issued by the Social Security Administration or Individual Taxpayer Identification Number (ITIN) assignment letter for you, your spouse and dependents.
3. Proof of foreign status, if applying for an ITIN.
4. Birth dates for you, your spouse and dependents on the tax return.
5. Wage and earning statement(s) Form W-2, W-2G, 1099-R, 1099-Misc from all employers.
6. Interest and dividend statements from banks (Forms 1099).
7. A copy of last year’s federal and state returns if available.
8. Proof of bank account routing numbers and account numbers for direct deposit, such as a blank check.
9. Total paid for day care provider and the day care provider’s tax identifying number (the provider’s Social Security number or the provider’s business Employer Identification Number) if appropriate.
