Summer
is a great time to enjoy books and reading!

To help give our students access to a variety of books in the summer, the FDES Library will be open on Wednesday mornings from 10:00 am – 12:00 noon. Children who visit the library must be accompanied by an adult. Current FDES students will be allowed to check out two books per visit. The library will be open:

All Frederick Douglass Elementary students are encouraged to participate in our school’s “Dive Into Reading” summer reading program.  Links to information about this and the summer reading log are on the Frederick Douglass Elementary home webpage.  Students might also enjoy the Loudoun County Public Library’s “In Your Backyard” summer reading challenges.

The FDES library collection includes over 750 electronic books that our students can access from any computer.  Also, the Loudoun County Public Schools online databases are available to students with a username and password.  This is a great way for children to find books and information without ever leaving the house!  To access links to the ebooks and databases, go to the FDES website.  Under “Departments” select “Library”.  On the left you will see a list of options, including “Online Resources/Databases” and “EBooks”.   If you need the usernames and passwords to log in to our databases or ebooks, email Mrs. Brawley and she will send you this information.
