Upcoming Events: 
  • Advisory lesson on Prom Etiquette & Decision Making
    April 18th at 11:24am in JCHS Auditorium
    A presentation from MADD and the VA State Police will be given to all Sophomores and Juniors related to alcohol affects and teen driving. This presentation is being done prior to Prom for awareness and education so our teens make responsible decisions. Parents are welcome to join us in the auditorium during Advisory from 11:24am – 12:06pm.

    Final Parent Workshop: Stress and Mental Health Awareness
    May 2nd at 8:00am in JCHS Library
    As a nod to Stress Awareness Month in April and Mental Health Awareness Month in May, the Counseling Department would like to culminate their workshop series covering both topics. With SOL testing and Finals drawing near and we’d like to give parents some tools to identify warning signs, some stress relieving tips, mental health resources, and more.

    College Planning Night
    May 9th at 6:30pm in various JCHS locations
    The evening begins with 15 minute breakout sessions (6:30-6:45, 6:50-7:05, 7:10-7:25). Parents and students can choose three sessions to attend. The sessions include SAT Preparation, Family Connection, Guaranteed Admission UVA, W&M, and VT, Financial preparedness, and Gap Year. At 7:30 in the Auditorium, there will be a panel presentation from four college admissions representatives. They will leading conversations on factors to consider when making a college list, the application essay, large versus small universities, and match versus fit.

    Want to be a College Athlete?
    May 13th 7:30pm at JCHS Auditorium
    Join Rick Wire, President of Dynamic Sports Inc. and author of Guiding the College Bound Athlete, to talk about becoming a college athlete: how do you get noticed, recruited, scholarships, and more.

    Junior class advisory lesson on the College process
    May 24th 11:24am in JCHS Auditorium
    The Counseling Department will be meeting with the junior class during Advisory to discuss the college application process in detail. Juniors will receive an overview of what to expect next year, deadlines, examples of college essays, information about standardized tests, and more.

 

  • Virginia Tech Admissions Weekend, July 12 - 13, 2013, Learn about the college admissions process and application preparation at this event designed for 2014 and 2015 high school graduates and their parents! Families who are specifically interested in Virginia Tech are encouraged to come early and take advantage of a campus tour provided by the Office of Undergraduate Admissions.
