American Literature  

Course Description

English 11 is a comprehensive study of grammar, American literature and composition. The grammar component is comprised of objectives taken from the Virginia Standards of Learning End of Year Writing Exam. Each student will be required to gain mastery of the standardized objectives which will include but are not limited to composition, written expression, usage and mechanics. The literature component is to develop students' reading and response strategies to various types of literature, including short stories, novels, poetry, drama, and nonfiction.
