First Quarter Objectives

Guitar 7, Guitar 8 Level 1Students will learn the requirements for success in the guitar program.  They will also learn about instrument care, correct playing posture, right and left hand techniques, and how to read the notes in first position on strings 1, 2, and 3.  

Guitar 8 Level 2:  Students will begin playing using free stroke and rest stroke combinations. They will begin to learn ensemble music in three and four parts in increasingly more complex rhythms.

Week 1 - Learning class expectations, instrument care, playing position
Week 2 - Learning how to use rest stroke and a correct left hand position 
Week 3 - Reading music, notes on the 1st string, Ex. 1-8
Week 4 - Notes on the second string, Ex. 9-13
Week 5 - Practicing reading and playing notes on 2 strings
Week 6 - Notes on the 3rd string, g scale, Ex. 19, 20
Week 7 - Practicing and reading notes on 3 strings, Ex. 21
Week 8, 9 - Ex. 22- 27
 
8th Grade Level 2
 
Week 1 - Learning class expectations, review strings 1-3
Week 2 - Review strings 4-6
Week 3 - Learning how to read and play music in 2 lines, Prel.1,2
Week 4 - Learning how to combine free and rest stroke, Etude no. 1
Week 5 - Using accidentals, Folk Song
Week 6 - Learning free stroke in pima combination
Week 7 - Learning Prelude no. 10
Week 8 - Starting ensemble playing in 3 and 4 parts
Week 9 - Ensemble playing, reviewing free and rest stroke techniques
