Five for Life Program

This school year PE classes will be participating in the Five for Life program.   This curriculum enhancement is the result of a federal PE Program (PEP) grant recently awarded to LCPS. The goals of this grant are to raise health literacy, meet the state standards in physical education, and increase students’ physical activity levels. The Five for Life program is a research-based, K-12 fitness and health program that aligns with physical education and health standards. Some of the topics students will cover in the Five for Life program are nutrition, skeletal system, muscular system, five components of fitness, circuit training, and intensity levels. Students will continue to learn about motor skills, character education, and other fitness related activities.  Pedometers and heart rate batons will be used as feedback technologies to help students monitor their heart rates and fitness levels.  Stethoscopes will also be used during the February Heart Obstacle Course week. Students will hear their resting and exercise heart beating.
