My name is Matthew Gage. I am entering my 23rd year as a teacher, 9th in Loudoun County. I opened both Pinebrook and Liberty but plan to stay put here at Buffalo Trail. I have known and worked with many of BT staff before and am looking forward to a great new year.
I grew up in the suburbs of Chicago. Still have many friends there. Miss the food, pizza, Portillos… I graduated from George Williams College in Downers Grove, Illinois and completed my teaching credentials from Aurora University in Aurora, Illinois (The City of Lights).
I live in Bristow Virginia with two of my daughters. Both are in college. My youngest, Katie, works with me here at Buffalo Trail. My middle daughter attends George Mason. My oldest is just moving to North Carolina with my grandson who just turned 10 months.
It will be important for all raising fourth grade students to understand the importance of coming to school ready for 4th grade. All students should know their multiplication facts and understand the concept of place value. Understanding and using strategies for reading comprehension in content areas, non-fiction, as well as fiction will be stressed throughout the year. Nightly homework can be expected as well as frequent quizzes and tests. In reading our 4th graders will study a different genre each month, including poetry which has been a favorite the past few years. We count on the partnership and support of our fourth grade parents throughout the year. Sending your child to school prepared and ready to learn makes a big difference in performance.
