Every other week, I am scheduled to teach a guidance lesson in each classroom. Some of the topics and character traits that will be covered include: Responsibility, Respect, Diversity, Caring, Citizenship, Trustworthiness, Problem-Solving, and Career Awareness. Each month a related word will be introduced to the students. Teachers and staff will reinforce their understanding of the trait throughout the school by noticing when a student demonstrates positive behavior.
Small Group Counseling
These groups are designed to give students an opportunity to work with other students their age who share some of the same concerns or are working on similar skills. Groups meet 4-6 weeks, and are held during lunch so as not to interfere with academics. Topics may include: Friendship, Study Skills, Stress-busters, Changing Families, Anger-Management, Grief/Loss, and Self-Esteem. Parental permission is required for a student to participate in a group.
I am also available to meet individually with students to discuss any concerns or worries. Issues typically are those of friendship, grief, divorce, conflict or school anxiety. Students may be referred to the counselor by a parent, teacher or administrator. Students may also refer themselves. If you would like your child to be seen individually, please do not hesitate to call. If a student will be seeing the counselor on an on-going basis, parental permission is required.
Additionally, I am available to parents and teachers to discuss issues that may be impacting a student’s ability to achieve academically. Let me know if I can be of any assistance in fostering personal growth and success.
