Meet Mrs. Tate
Hello Everyone! I am so pleased to be starting my fourth year as a third grade teacher at Horizon! I've read some great books over the summer and gone to some interesting math workshops and I'm ready to get started with a fabulous year during 2012-2013.
In case you haven't met me, I'll tell you a little about myself. I started at Horizon in 1999, the year the school opened. But I wasn't a teacher, I was a parent of a third grader. That third grader will be a senior at William & Mary this year.
Having finished my Bachelor's degree in Kinesiological Sciences from University of Maryland, I spent some time helping in the classroom, and I eventually returned to school to earn my Masters in Elementary Education from Old Dominion University. I was able to work with all the grade levels in elementary school as a long-term substitute, and in 2009 I started teaching third grade. It's such a fabulous place to be--learning multiplication and fractions, cursive handwriting, simple machines, and ancient civilizations. We have a grand time with the Famous American Wax Museum and Mad Scientist Days!
I'm looking forward to meeting you soon! I hope to see you at the Open House on Friday, August 24th from 10:30 until noon. Parents are invited to attend the Back-to-School night on Tuesday, August 21st at 6:30 p.m.
Third grade is a year of many "firsts" and I can't wait to get started!
